Why did God bury Moses?

A lot of things go unexplained when we read the Scriptures. There are things we need to understand if we really want to grasp the knowledge of events that happened in the Bible. One of them is: why did God bury Moses?

Moses was the only one God buried according to the Scriptures. Not only that, the devil was fighting over his body, why? Why didn’t the devil contend with the body of other men and women who served and walked with God? There must be something about Moses.

Deuteronomy 34:6, “And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day”.

Jude 1:9, “Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you””.

Now, why the devil’s contention? I will certainly tell you. The devil contended the body of Moses because an innocent blood was speaking against Moses just like the blood of Abel was speaking against Cain (Genesis 4:10). Moses killed an Egyptian in cold blood and buried him (Exodus 2:12). Sometimes our past deeds show up when we must have forgotten and tend to disqualify us from our race of salvation. That was exactly what happened to Moses. The devil came to dispute over Moses’ right to be in God’s saving grace. The devil is always the accuser of the brethren.

God buried Moses so that the children of Israel will not make him an idol to worship. The spirit of idol worship resides in them, so if God allowed them to bury Moses they will make a monument of him and pay homage to his statue as a god. In other to avert this, God had to hid his place of burial. If the Israelites could worship the golden calf they can equally worship Moses by mere experiences of the miracles God performed through him.

Another reason God buried Moses was to put an end to the law, for the law needed to be buried with whom God initiated it with. If the law was not put to an end grace will not abound. That was why on the transfiguration Moses and Elijah showed up representing the law and the prophets (Matthew 17:1-13).

Romans 7:6 says, “But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the boldness of the letter”.

God buried Moses so that he could have authority among the saints. Likewise Jesus had to ressurect with His body to prove His authority over death. The burial of Moses is important to God because his body marks the end of unlawful contention of the flesh to be renewed in the Spirit of Christ.

I pray that everything in your life which be not of God be buried in Jesus name. Shalom.

Sir, if you read the Word descending that is correct but if you read the verses ascending, mount in the ancient semitic languages points to your mind the highest point on your earth, your body, God the Creator buried his past on the mount. You crucify your mind to the things that men create, Heb. 11:3,so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Man buries man, God buries your past. Take a look at Jacobs ladder, Man descended, men who believe on the Word ascend. God in the ancient semitic languages is always plural except in the first vs. Gen 1:1 because of the adjective created. The second vs is where you see the fullness of God, the holy Spirit, the Creator and the Word, For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Without revelations, we are shortsighted. We need knowledge to advance our purpose on earth. The word of God is revelational.

I always asked those two questions also. Thanks for the revelation. My next question to you is why did the devil contend over the body of Moses and not his soul? Thanks for visiting blog.

I did answer the question in the message. The devil needed the flesh of Moses to use it to deceive the Israelites to worship him as an idol, God used it to put an end to the law.
Remember God is the God of all flesh.
The devil cannot contend with his soul because God has taken over it. His soul is already in God’s saving grace but the body needed to be buried which is normal. It means the devil had an ulterior motive to have the body of Moses.
Thanks a lot for your time. You blog is interesting.

Thank you for responding. You have expounded on the scripture and it has become clear to me. The fact that God hid the body of Moses is proof that He has put an end to the law. The Israelites definitely would have made a Nehushtan with His body as they did the graven serpent. I have written a post about this spirit and I have also written a book exposing some I the tricks of the enemy. I strongly believe that God reveal different things to His servants so that we can learn from each other. I am seeking your permission to quote your name and your explanation in my writings. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I am a Jamaican but I currently residing in BVI for 17 years. You may have heard about the terrible hurricanes that we had recently. They totally devastated the islands taking away all our worldly possessions but leaving our lives. Isn’t God amazing? We are so grateful to Him.

Thank you for the like. If more people would read the bible and put their prejudices away, they would be better off. They’ve been taught so many beliefs that aren’t true at all. Take care.

This is so revelational buddy. Our God doesn’t forget any deed be it good or bad. The devil also never forgets. He keeps records and uses it to accuse believers. We must be very careful how we live our lives.
We all deserve a second chance here on earth but very few gets it after death. Moses was the among the few.

God bless you real good for sharing this insightful piece.
