I sat down to analyse why we pass through certain situations in our lives which we were not supposed to. I discovered it is because of the person or people in the boat with us. Wherever you find yourself the person around you, your companion, group, friends, family or associates can make or mar you.
Look at the similarities of what happened in the boat of Jonah and in the boat of Jesus. Jonah was a prophet likewise Jesus. Jonah means dove. When Jesus was baptized the Holy Spirit appeared like a dove (Matthew 3:16). Jesus was sent to deliver sinners which He did, Jonah had the same mandate to Nineveh but he refused initially but was forced to do it. Both were in a boat to their mandates, both experienced windstorm. Both were sleeping during the tempest (Jonah 1:5, Mark 4:38). The people in both boats with them cried out for help. The difference was what happened during the windstorm. A fish swallowed Jonah but Jesus used fishes to feed the multitude. Jonah was thrown into the sea and it became calm but Jesus rebuked the sea and it was calm.
My question to you is : Are you in the right boat?. Are you in the right congregation, church, association, club, career, frame of mind, place, team, group, environment, ministry, friendship or relationship. Are you writing the right blog? Check yourself. Hope you’re not in the wrong place of life and events. The people you mingle with can bring harm or success to you.
There are people who vowed to fall into destruction, fail, resist positive change, incur the wrath of God like Jonah, covenanted themselves to occultism, illuminati and other secret cults. Some sold their souls and the souls of their children to the devil. If you are not sensitive to know them you are in danger because mingling with them makes you a suspect. A suspect remains a suspect until it is proved otherwise.
Learn to understand those you follow, why you follow and how you follow. Wether in your school, family, place of work, in the church because not all are are Christ-centred. Even the ones you follow their blogs can disentisize or confuse you by what they write, say, reply, contribute or advise.
Look at what Jesus did when He was in the boat during the storm, ” Then Jesus arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39).
Now what do you do? Arise, rebuke yourself, get out of that boat, say to the wrong people around, ” I cease to be here”. It is only when you do it that you will have great calm.
Your boat makes you float but if you don’t remove the wrong people, you will be heading to the wrong direction. Your boat is all what you have. It is either Jonah is in your boat or Jesus is.
