Are you about to end your career? Read this!

There are innumerable careers, and I believe you have one or more. A lot of people change careers as soon as they experience temporary setbacks or hitches especially when the results are not encouraging. They go on and on looking for a suitable career and at the end they go back to where they started from.

You’re not the first to experience such situations but if you don’t know what to do you will continue to make mistakes. That was exactly what happened to Peter in Luke chapter 5. Peter had concluded to quit fishing for the day after toiling all night. Probably, he wanted to put an end to his fishing career and look for a better thing to do.

Something happened immediately; Jesus showed up from nowhere. After he allowed Jesus to use his boat for preaching, Jesus said to Peter,

“…….. Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch” (Luke 5:4).

The first thing Peter did was to start arguing. He narrated how he had put his time and energy all night to catch fishes but to no avail. All of a sudden he changed his mind and decided to act according to the words of Jesus. That’s the point – never waste your time arguing or struggling with your career, just obey the word. The word is: “LAUNCH OUT”.

Launch out your career, your ministry, your ideas, your business, your album, your soul winning, your academics, your blog, your relationship, your research, your talent, your videos, your inspiration, your book, your investment, your invention.

Continue doing what you’re doing. Launch out your nets into the deep, meaning, go deeper, go extra mile, spread out, spread your tentacles, look for better ways of doing things, look for partners, don’t wait till all is set, launch it now!

Your nets are various means and strategies you have to lay down to achieve your purpose. That is why the online platform is called the “internet“, because you need to have a net of connections to launch out.

Peter thought his knowledge in fishing technology was enough for him to succeed until he met with disappointment. Earthly knowledge is limited but divine knowledge is unlimited. When he accepted to act according to the word of knowledge his life changed forever. Education is good, your career or profession is good but if you want to achieve the impossible you have to act on the word of God. You need spiritual knowledge to enjoy earthly knowledge.

The word of God does not have expiry date. It is an action word. When Peter launched out his net by His word he uncovered prosperity.

If you want to catch a lot of things this year just launch out your nets and never stop spreading your nets by the word of God.

Thank you for this encouragement, I have really enjoyed the discussion on this post. I always think the final line is vital in this story. Luke 5:11 says, “So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”
Whether or not Peter fished again, at that moment he and his colleagues walked away from the biggest catch of their life. To me it represents a huge shift in faith. All of a sudden they believed fishing for men with Jesus was; worth more, necessary right now, the first thing they had to do and they were not afraid to go.
God bless you as you launch out and “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people!”
    Thank you for your blog!

Great! But I still want to add that, sometimes, God would want you to make a U-turn. You just have to learn how to hear God. An engineer has turned a successful barrister, an engineer has turned a successful teacher, a furniture maker has turned a successful judge, and so on and so forth. Sometimes if you don’t recognize God’s voice, it can force it on you! These are all recorded facts and experiences. Notwithstanding, there is an iota of truth in this post. It depends on who Holy Spirit is talking to.

Sure, you are right. Peter was meant to catch men not fish. Jesus asking Peter to cast his net is a physical exercise but with a spiritual connotation. Meaning, the same way Peter caught the fish is the same he needed to fish men.
Peter followed Jesus doesn’t mean he never went back to fishing. Fishing was his career, being an Apostle was his divine call. Again, I don’t think Jesus disciples were just following Him without having a career that brings income.

People can change careers no doubt but the point I’m making is for one to know the career that suits one and know how to make out something out of it rather than quitting at any slightest challenge.

Peter, I thank you for your thoughts of wisdom. Your points are right. Stay connected.

Thanks Evangelist Chilavert. Another instance, I am an associate pastor of our church, and I have published a Christian book online, which I’m going to published traditionally next year. Many people said, “I’m supposed to be a full time pastor.” My answer was that, “The biblical knowledge is really helping me in my career as a teacher, then when I retired from teaching/lecturing, I’m going to become a full-time pastor cum a contractor.” I think this can go together! What I’m saying in essence is that, to have impact in life, one has to work for God, by having impact on our community, meanwhile there is nothing wrong in having at least 3 sources of income, with wisdom. That’s the way to be truly financially free, through the WORKS o our hands. Stay blessed, and continue impacting us!

You’re right. Just like me. I’m a petroleum engineer, a business consultant and a contractor but a pastor by calling.
We’re saying the same thing. If one does not choose one’s career or careers carefully and be steadfast it will certainly affect one’s divine assignment. A chosen career path is very important. Wrong careers can drain your years of struggle.

I say thank you for bringing up these additions. It’s fun sharing ideas with you. Bless you.

Peter had been using his boat solely for fishing until Jesus used it as a platform to address the crowd. That was the preparation for a huge catch. After wards, Jesus gave him a hint: catching fish comes after accommodating Jesus and following Him/ His directions. ” Follow Me, and l will make you a fisher of men”, that’s what Jesus told Peter after his record breaking catch. Jesus used the same technical language of Peter’s trade, career if you like. Peter’s confidence wasn’t supposed to be in his career, but in following Jesus’ career. That of fishing men. That was expanding his vision. Let’s keep it in mind that the fishing of men in this instance preceded the big catch. And the tools were the same as before. Not a new or different ones.

Amen! I like how Peter allowed Jesus to use his boat. I think the challenge we are having today is that sometime soon we shut Jesus off the door and block Him from using our boat. Giving Him access to our boat is what will bring about our encounter. Once that encounter happens, He will speak and give us directions on what to do. And like you said, it isn’t just enough for Him to speak, we have to stop complaining and arguing and obey whatever He tells us to do. So the formula is
Availability + rhema + obedience = Supernatural result
